A matched pair of early George III silver candlesticks.

A matched pair of early George III silver candlesticks, each on gadrooned square base with shell and foliate scroll detail, rising to a knopped stem with wrythen fluted base and terminating in a spool-shaped socket, with crest engraving, further gadroon borders throughout and later decorated with floral and diaper pattern motifs, each with conforming swirl fluted removable nozzle. Hallmarked London 1765 and 1766 with maker's mark E.C, for Elizabeth Cooke or Ebenezer Coker. Height including nozzle 11" (28cm), gross weight 52.36 ozt (1628.5 grams).

Condition Report:
- Both appear quite tarnished throughout with some residues of polish.
- Displaying expected surface wear, marks and scratches in keeping with the age and use.
- Some visible seam lines and minor surface dints and bruises.
- Heavier wear around edges and corners.
- Engraved crests located around the bases of sockets, depicting a lion and a forearm holding a dagger.
- Both with residues of black substance seen to the underside of bases, indicating possible repairs.
- Hallmarks located to inner edge of one side of base rim and therefore some punches very slightly clipped. Scratch weights visible. Sockets appear unmarked.
- Removable nozzles appear a fairly good fit but are unmarked. With seam splits.
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
