A mid-18th century English gilt metal chatelaine etui, probably London circa 1760
The shaped belt hook with chased decoration of two putti with a C scroll and rocaille reserve being observed by a serpent. From a suspension chain a tapering etui of ogee cross section, with emossed decoration of a gladadorial figure to one side and a woman in contemporary dress to the obverse, flanked by spiral columns and foliate C scrolls against a matted ground. The interior fitted with a snuff spoon, folding fruit knife with chase pistol handle, ivory slide, folding scissors, was scoop and pencil holder.
