A mid-18th century German enamel chinoiserie snuff box, Berlin circa 1750 by Fromery, with Louis XV French silver gilt mounts, Paris 1753
Of rectangular form with hinged silver mounted for a domed lid. The lid with five vignettes of oriental figures, four painted in puce camaieu, the central one in polychrome, each depicting two figures some with architectural backgrounds, all reserved in raised gilt foliate scrolls against a white and blue dot lattice work background. The sides and base with similar decoration with the some of vignettes inhabited by birds and flowers. The mount marked with date letter N, charge and discharge for Julien Berthe (1750-56), and an obscured makers mark.
Length – 8.7 cm / 3.45 inches
