A mid-19th century Indian Colonial silver small ewer, Calcutta circa 1850 by Hamilton and Co Of lobed ‘melonized’ baluster form upon a spreading circular foot with embossed gadrooned edge and an embossed trailing acanthus leaf junction. The twisted C scroll handle with applied leaves and tendrils to the junctions. The everted neck with a cast and applied laurel wreath rim, the hinged centrally domed lobed lid of conforming shape surmounted by detachable cast flower and leafy stalk finial. Gilt interior. Marked underneath H&Co, Elephant, cup and cover, Roman capital A and a crescent tally mark, also stamped Hamilton & Co Jewellers Calcutta. Height – 20.5 cm / 8.1 inches Weight – 685 grams / 22.02 ozt
