A military wheellock-puffer, Augsburg, circa 1570
Two-stage barrel, octagonal then round, with flared muzzle and original bluing. Smooth bore in 14 mm calibre. At the breech struck Augsburg city mark (Pyr) and barrel maker’s mark (imperial orb, Stöckel no. 6477). Wheellock with cut springs and lock plate with original bluing. External semi-encapsulated wheel, pan with spring-loaded cover and release button. The lock plate with struck crescent moon mark (similar to Stöckel no. 8481). Walnut full stock with flattened ball pommel. Rich inlays of engraved and blackened bone. Original wooden ramrod with threaded iron sleeve. Length 56 cm.
Elegant weapon in excellent, untouched original condition. Numerous similar items can be found, among others, in the collection of the Graz armoury.
