A nice bronze figure of the Hindu deity Nataraja Shiva

A nice bronze figure of the Hindu deity Nataraja Shiva, Lord of Dance, early - mid 20th Century, within a flaming halo, holding the damaru, the hand drum that made the first sound of creation, and the agni, which is the flames that will destroy the universe. The figure under foot represents apasmara purusha, which is illusion that leads mankind astray. This figure of Shiva Nataraja conveys the Indian conception of the never-ending cycle of time. 6 1/8 x 5 1/2 in (15.5 x 13.9 cm). Nicely patinated.
