A nobleman's outfit for archery contests
dating: circa 1600 provenance: France, Made in four pieces, hood with shoulders, shirt with long sleeves and two socks. Finely sewn with a gilded, cream-color thread alternated with high and low bands. Small damages and parts missing. Very rare high quality dress. We did not find other similar pieces but the style of the shirt is similar to other dresses especially early 17th century jackets. It is certain that it is an object of a noble. The whole shape is reminiscent of an archer's shirt but the dress could also be used for court games and tournaments.Provenance: Fischer/Lucerne sale of 10th and 11th of September 2015, illustrated and described on page 241. length various cm.
