A pair of coral-ground gilt-decorated quatrefoil porcelain planters, Shende Tang zhi marks, China, probably late Qing dynasty, 21 cm diameter
Provenance: important Swiss patrician family, received as a gift during a diplomatic mission in China, ca 1920, by the grandfather of the actual owner
Condition report:
Both planters:
Some wearing to the gilding, especially to the rim
Presence of some firing imperfections
Presence of some surface scratches
Presence of eight spur marks to the base
Normal wearing to the feet, showing the white body of the porcelain in some areas
The enamel colours are slightly paler near the rim to the exterior
Planter 2:
Presence of some horizontal firing cracks to the leiwen frieze, the longest one of approx. 1,7 cm long
Presence of a slightly different texture of the gilding and shades of the colour ground on a circular area to lower right part the shou character, of approx. 0,5x0,4mm. Not visible under UV light. Therefore seemingly resulting from an impact rather than restoration
