The painted wooden cabinet with the blue-skinned Vishnu on the left door identified by the kneeling Garuda, the blue-skinned Rama on the right door identified by kneeling Hanuman, the inside of the doors painted with Shiva and Brahma respectively, and with the triad at center, all of the details, including their garlands decorations surrounding all the deities, carefully painted in minute detail, 2 pieces

Other Notes: "Jagannath" is a compound of two Sanskrit words: "jagat," meaning "universe," and "natha," meaning "Master" or "Lord." Thus, Jagannath means "lord of the universe," and is often interpreted as Krishna, avatar of Vishnu. These two images are inspired directly by those found in the inner sanctum of the Jagannath temple in Puri. Here the blue-skinned Jagannath stands to the right of his brother Balabhadra with their sister Subhadra in the middle, encircled by a lively retinue of gods and animals. This image continues to inspire modern artists; see a work by Pakhal Tirumal Reddy dated to 1979 (see Sotheby's, "The Surya Collection: Property from Mrs. Ute Rettberg," lot 58, which sold for the equivalent of nearly $2,000 on May 31, 2022).
Condition Report: The painting in good condition with very minor creases and associated paint losses in the left margin. The wooden cabinet in good condition, with some dust on the exterior overall, and minor staining and abrasions on the top and bottom edges, the interior with fresh colors.
