A pair of French gilt metal chenets in Louis XVI style, circa 1900, possibly previously ends of a fender, each with a twin handled urn finial cast with rams' masks and a writhing serpent, descending to pilaster bases inset with medallions, supporting reclining putti, with cast iron supports to rear, 40cm high, 38cm wide Property from the estate of the late Betty, Lady Grantchester Condition Report: Both with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Top of the urns are not securely fixed in place and can revolve slightly. Some wear and loss to gilding, though bright in parts particularly the figures themselves. The casting joins to arms are visible. As stated in the cataloguing it is is possible these are adapted from a fender. Some later screws. Supports to backs are probably later associated.
