A pair of French onyx and gilt metal mounted pedestals
A pair of French onyx and gilt metal mounted pedestals, early 20th century, each with square top above a Corinthian capital and straight shaft, above waisted collars and square bases, each on four bracket feet, 113cm high, the tops 33cm square
Provenance: Private collection from a country house, Derbyshire
Condition Report:
The columns bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scratches overall consistent with age and use. They also show lines and veins overall, which naturally occur in the stone. One of the columns has several dark brown 'blooming' patches to the underside of its square top. These are probably also naturally occurring irregularities in the stone but could very possibly in one or two places be filled. There are three or four minor chips to the corners and edges of this top. The other top is loose, and might need to be reattached. This top has four or five shallow chips to the edges and corners, including one larger circa 2cm patch to the edge. The other has an area (circa 8cm) of shallow chipping to the upper edge of the base. The gilding is slightly faded and dark overall, and there are traces of green residue to the recesses.
