[ translate ]

A pair of George III Irish mahogany armchairs, circa 1780, carved with foliate, fluted and patera detail, each shaped rectangular back centred by a vase shaped splat, each drop in seat flanked by shaped and outswept arms, on square section legs joined by stretchers

Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Old chips and splits. some old repairs. There are repairs at each upper corner of the backs. The mouldingt at the base of each splat has split through previously where the base of the splat has been pushed through it. Each position has been glued previously. One of the splats/ moulding at base of splat likely needs simple re-gluing into position again as is loose. The chairs are of solid structure overall. As associated with Irish antique furniture at times, these chairs have had a very dark varnish applied to them. This is worn back to the paler timber beneath in some areas due to use. It is difficult to know at what point in their lives the dark varnish was applied but it has been applied for considerable time. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
