A pair of George III mahogany stools, circa 1770, in need of re-upholstery, with spandrels to the angles and on chamfered supports, 48cm high, 49cm wide, 38cm deep, together with another similar stool, circa 1800 and later, with drop-in seat, 48cm high, 49cm wide, 41cm deepProvenance: Berwick House, ShropshireCondition Report: As catalogued, the provenance both is Berwick House, Shropshire. Previous history is not available at this time.The pair:Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, consistent with age and use,Some chips and losses, old splits and cracks, one spandrel cracked through. Lacking the wood mouldings/veneers where the upholstery meets the top of the stools, some damage and repair to the pierced bracketsEvidence of old worm. Repairs incorporating later timber including to the leg, brackets, stretcher and seat rail areas. Overall solid and stableAs catalogued these will require re-upholstery, the present calico does not cover the rails - there are signs of old glue and tack marks to the rails.
