A pair of George III silver and steel candle snuffers.

A pair of George III silver and steel candle snuffers, of scissor action form with foliate pierced silver stems leading to circular finger rings, with steel blades and chamber, the whole raised on three bun feet. Silver hallmarked Benjamin May, Birmingham, no visible date letter, circa 1780. Length 6.25" (16cm).

Condition Report:
- Displaying general expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing throughout, commensurate with the age and use.
- Many minor surface nicks and pitting marks, mainly visible to the steel section. Also the tip is curved downwards.
- Scissor action appears in good working order.
- Appears to be a couple of small cracks and solder repairs to one of the silver ring handles, around the top and at the join to the pierced section.
- Further likely repair or replacement to one of the silver feet and other silver foot is slightly loose.
- Further possible repairs to other parts.
- Hallmarks located to each ring handle, lion passant, anchor and maker's mark only. All clearly legible.
