A pair of Meissen porcelain plates from a dinner service with mythical creatures

Plate with a scalloped rim. The well decorated with a Chinoiserie lion surrounded by insects and indianische blumen. The rim with three large butterflies alternating with sprigs of indianische blumen. Blue crossed swords mark, dreher's number 21, incised I in the basal ring. A restored rim chip at 3 o'clock, minor wear to the glaze. D 25.5 and 25.7 cm.
Circa 1740, the decor after Adam Friedrich von Löwenfinck.

Similarly decorated plates with Sulkowski-Ozier relief decor have been attributed to Adam Friedrich von Löwenfinck. Ulrich Pietsch assembled a significant number of pieces such as these for the Löwenfinck exhibition "Phantastische Welten" (Fantasy Worlds) held in Dresden in 2014, and was thus able to attribute the works to this great faience and porcelain painter more precisely.
