A pair of Regence carved giltwood side tables

[ translate ]

A pair of Regence carved giltwood side tables, circa 1720, of slightly varying proportions, each shaped marble top above a pierced frieze carved with floral branches and centred by a floral cartouche, on foliate carved moulded cabriole legs and out scrolled feet, one 90cm high, 150cm wide, 65cm deep, the other 89cm high, 164cm wide, 65cm deep

Provenance: Property from a private collection.

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. some old repairs. Later supporting blocks to the interior of the carcass of each table. Gilding appears original. Chips, losses and flaking to gilding. We can only assume that the tables were made to different dimensions for their original commission, likely to fit a specific wall space or in an alcove. They are the same in all aspects other than the dimensions. There are no signs of fundamental alteration. The marble tops appear original. There are no breaks to the marble. There are various old chips to the outer edges of the marble but mainly concentrated to the rear edges as often seen. Some surface has been used to fill natural faults in the marble. The structure of the tables is generally solid and the joints are firm, however they may need some minor attention to 'tighten' further. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition
