A pair of Victorian silver figural table salts, each modelled in the form of a twin-tailed siren or mermaid holding aloft a nautilus shell and seated on a circular slightly domed base with stiff leaf border, with a pair of foliate detailed salt spoons having scallop-edge gilt bowls. Hallmarked Stephen Smith & William Nicholson, London 1852. Height of salts 5.25 (13.5cm), length of spoons 4.25 (11cm), gross weight 21.71 ozt (675.2 grams). Dimensions: Condition Report: All pieces appear in good overall condition, displaying some general expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing. Heavier wear to some areas, especially edges of shells and wings. Slight crack to one wing Some rubbing to surface texture and decoration with some slight loss of detail to certain areas. Pitting marks to interiors of shells and evidence of being previously gilded.Hallmarks clear and legible with matching part hallmarks to various parts. Sirens are screwed to base, damage to one and now shorter. All pieces have been later nickel plated. They have been tested using a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser, which shows a higher nickel content.
