[ translate ]

A pair of carved giltwood mounts, 19th century, modelled opposing, each as putti with scaled fish tails, 72cm high, 27cm wideProvenance: Private collection removed from 9, Royal Crescent, BathCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useOld splits and cracks, chips and losses. The surfaces with flaking and uneveness to the gilt, this has rubbed and worn and is revealing the underlying timber As inferred in the cataloguing these are probably mounts from a much larger piece - perhaps a mirror and are thus incomplete. Each is missing an arm where it presumably attached to the larger item. Each may have had a wing previously - there is uneven surface to the shoulders and some remnants of metal wire, other losses to areas such as the fish tales. Some later bracing elements to the rear, signs of old repairs, one labled X the other B to the rear, each with an iron bracket for mountingPlease refer to additional images for visual reference to conditionCondition Report Disclaimer
