A pair of early George V silver mounted candlesticks in

A pair of early George V silver mounted candlesticks in Neo-Classical style, each with loaded square base having a ribbon and reed border and rising to a tapered stem decorated in relief with ribbon tied baskets of fruit below drapery swags, to a vase shape socket with dolphin supports and a removable circular nozzle, with further foliate motifs to the whole. Hallmarked Elkington & Co Ltd., Sheffield 1913. Height 12.25 (31cm). Dimensions: Condition Report: Both displaying general expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.Both with numerous little surface dints and nicks around the base rims with heavier wear to corners and edges. Further minor dints to other parts. On one example there are splits and a repair to the socket with some visible solder and knocks to he side and rim. The removable nozzle to this candlestick is also heavily bashed and does not have any visible hallmarks although it is testing as silver at around 93.4% Ag. Some surface wear and rubbing to areas of the raised decoration with loss of detail, especially to the sockets. Main hallmarks located to edges of bases, rubbed but still legible. One nozzle with matching part hallmarks. Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns. Fellows does not guarantee the standard of silver unless an item is hallmarked. Results from electronically tested items should only be used as a guide and with caution, as false readings are possible.
