A pair of early Victorian silver vegetable dishes and covers, of circular form, each domed and fluted cover with acanthus detail and a cast detachable foliate branch handle, engraved with opposing armorial and crest, on a circular dish with applied gadroon and foliate motif rim and repeated crest detail. Hallmarked John Samuel Hunt, London 1845 (covers 1844), each further marked 'Hunt & Roskell Late Storr, Mortimer & Hunt' and numbered 2328. Maximum diameter of dish 11.25" (28.5cm), maximum height 7.25" (18.5cm), total gross approximate weight 103.46 ozt (3218 grams).
Condition Report:
- Both appear in fairly good overall condition.
- Displaying surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and general use.
- Also displaying some surface nicks and minor dints and bumps.
- Both dishes with numerous heavier scratches and contact marks, likely from general use with knives and other utensils.
- Also with heavier scuffed marks and scratches to the underside of each dish.
- Residues of previous polish to some areas especially in the embellished areas.
- Engraved details of armorials and crest still appear fairly bright and in good condtion, with only light surface wear.
- Full hallmarks located to the side of each dish, to the interior of each cover and to both detachable handles. Both fixing bolts also marked with a lion passant.
- Rubbing to some of the hallmark punches but all are still legible and most are in good order.
- Detachable branch handles are dated 1845, the same as the dishes.
- Both dishes further marked 'Hunt & Roskell Late Storr, Mortimer & Hunt' and numbered 2328 to each underside. These rubbed in places but still all legible.
