A pair of large Chinese famille rose baluster vases
Qing dynasty, 19th century
The sturdily potted vases each with a trumpet neck with everted foliate rim, flanked by a pair of handles in form of Buddhist lion dogs at play, applied with moulded chilongs to the front and back of the shoulders, brightly enamelled with a continuous scene from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms depicting officials, ladies and warriors, 61cm high. Condition Report:
First vase with large areas of restoration, particularly to the mouth, covering some restuck chips, and to the centre of the base, with two large hairlines radiating from the centre outwards. Approx. 20mm wide rim chip.
The other vase with nibbling to edges, small drill hole to base and scattered areas of old tape residue.
