A pair of late 18th/early 19th century French walnut lady's shoes, the fronts finely carved with a medallion and leaves, the interiors lined in blue and cream silk, length 28cm, together with an old inscribed note detailed 'Sabots dout se servit la fille de Louis XVI, Madame la Duchesse d'Angoulème de 1799 à 1803'. Note: Marie-Thérèse Charlotte was the eldest child of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette of France. In 1799 she married her cousin Louis Antoine, Duke of Angoulème, henceforth becoming the Duchess of Angoulème.
