A pair of nice Egyptian steatite scarabs. The first, an Egyptian scarab with a cobra, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, carved in steatite, the body and legs of good style, the base featuring a uraeus wearing a feathered headdress. 14 x 11.5 mm. Holed lengthwise for suspension, moderate deposits. The second, an Egyptian brown steatite scarab, New Kingdom, c. 1570 - 1075 BC, with nicely carved head, body and legs, on base, facing figure of the god Bes facing wearing feathered headdress, hole lengthwise for suspension. 14 x 11 mm. Traces of glaze, mineral deposits throughout. Late Period scarab: Ex collection of Gustave Mustaki formed in the mid-20th Century; New Kingdom scarab: Ex collection of Lawrence Buchanan and Dr. Enrique von Kiguel, formed throughout the 1970's-80's; Ex Southern California private collection.
