A pair of silver-mounted flintlock pistols, Wittemann in Gießen, circa 1750
Description: Two-stage octagonal to round barrels with smooth bores in calibre 14.5 mm. Applied silver front sights. Domed lock plates with the engraved signature "Wittemann à Gießen" surmounting a trophy ornament. One hammer very well replaced. Walnut full stocks with dark bone noses. Finely engraved silver furnitures, on the sideplate a siege scene with a cannon in front of a fortress. The thumb plate with monogram "MV" under a crown, either butt cap marked "No. 5". Original wooden ramrods with horn tips. Length of either pistol 39 cm.
