A plate from the green table service, the "2. Potsdam´sche" service, made for Frederick II
Model no. 189, decorated with a bouquet of large blooms to the centre. Blue sceptre mark, impressed ooA3. A ground-down and retouched rim chip. D 25.8 cm.
1767.
** Provenance
Collection of Prof. Dr. Gisela Zick.
Frederick II ordered the 2nd Potsdam service for the Neue Palais in Potsdam, and also had an identical service produced as a present for his son-in-law, Margrave Karl Alexander von Brandenburg-Ansbach (1736 - 1806). Unlike the 1st Potsdam service, the second, so-called green table service, was paid from the royal coffers. The invoice provides us with a terminus ante quem to date the time of its delivery to 3rd July 1767. Upon the publication of Georg Lenz' two-volume work in 1913, there were no longer any items from this service remaining in the royal collection.
