Gouache on ivory portrait facing right. Monogrammed "CR" left edge. With a very small vertical crack at the centre lower edge, due to a natural grown crack in the ivory. 10.9 x 8.5 cm. Louis XVI gilt bronze frame.
Christian Richter, London, first quarter 18th C.
Born in Stockholm around 1678 as the son of a silversmith, Christian Richter worked in Berlin, Dresden and, from 1704 at the latest, permanently in London. He specialised in miniatures in various techniques, both gouache on ivory and enamel on copper. Today, his works can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, among others.
