A portrait miniature on ivory of The Hon. Jeffery Amherst (1802-26), by "Mrs Solly", c.1820, with a gilt-bronze mount and fitted in glazed a red leather folding case, 11 x 9.2 cm Ivory registration submission reference: F2C6XZ5M Provenance: Sir John Hay Williams (1794-1859), 2nd Baronet of Bodelwyddan, and of Rhianva, Anglesey.; By descent to the present owner. Note: Accompanied by a handwritten note by Lady Sarah (wife of Sir John Hay Williams) reading 'My eldest brother the Honble Jeffery Amherst, who died at Barrackpore near Calcutta. Aug 2nd 1826. A bad likeness, done by Mrs Solly, at Calcutta.' The Hon. Jeffery Amherst (1802-26), born 29 August and baptised 16 October 1802 was the eldest son of William Pitt Amherst (1773-1857), 1st Earl Amherst. He died unmarried 2 August and was buried at Barrackpore, 3 August 1826.
