A racing trophy, c. 1929.

In the form of a statuette of a Sergeant, standing 'at ease', 1st Bn. Northern Nigeria Regiment, West African Frontier Force, c. 1906-14, mounted upon a black-painted wooden plinth; in silver, struck with the hallmarks for the London assaying year 1929-30 and the maker's mark of Carrington & Co., the statuette measuring 178mm high and the plinth 76 mm. The plinth mounted with four rectangular silver plaques, all struck with the same hallmarks as the statuette and engraved with commemorative inscriptions, as follows:

NORTHERN NIGERIA 1906. ZUNGERU NEW YEAR RACE MEETING. THE NIGER COMPANY CUP. BAY PONY GUDDABAWA. THE CIVILIAN CUP. CH. PONY SARABAND. THE LOKOJA CUP. BAY PONY GUDDABAWA.

HOME 1907. GRAND MILITARY MEETING SANDOWN PARK. THE TALLY HO STEEPLECHASE. BAY MARE LONGMOOR LASS. THE ROYAL WELCH FUSILIERS POINT TO POINT MEETING AT SHERBORNE ST JOHN. RED DRAGON CUP BAY MARE LONGMOOR LASS.

The statuette enclosed in a wooden fitted box with a carrying handle, lined in blue baize and with the retailer's label of Carrington & Co..

Slight damage to the statuette's rifle sling but otherwise in very good condition.
