A rare 13mm 'Tank-Gewehr' bolt-action anti-tank rifle by Mauser, no 3364
The receiver-ring bearing the Mauser insignia and '1918', the action, receiver-ring, barrel, trigger-guard, stock and bipod-mount bearing matching serial numbers, the stock with wooden pistol-grip, recoil-block
Weight 36lb., 14¼in. stock, 38in. barrel
In response to the inefficacy of current armour penetrating cartridges on the new British Mk.IV tank, Mauser developed the 13.2mm 'Tank-Gewehr' (so called as the Germans did not have a name for tank yet) from a scaled up Mauser G98 action. Capable of penetrating an inch of armour at 100 yards, the 'T-Gewehr' is considered the first portable anti-tank weapon, and the predecessor to the modern anti-material rifle. Examples were deployed in early 1918 with production totalling approximately 16,000.
