A rare Berlin KPM porcelain cup commemorating Friedrich II
Model no. 1186 with original saucer. Decorated with a portrait of King Friedrich II with a war drum and an anthropomorphic lion supporting a tablet recording the dates of his birth and death in a Neoclassical surround. The well decorated with a further medallion inscribed with a Latin hymn and the dates of his victorious battles. The saucer signed “F. Berger fe” in the lower right. Blue sceptre mark, incised marks. With a minor restored chip to the rim of the cup.
Late 18th C., décor based on a design by Friedrich Gottlieb Berger (1713 - 1797).
