A rare Chinese bronze chamfron, 11th - 8th century B.C.Large bronze chamfron for a war horse with distinctive greenish, partially reddish patina. The centre slightly ridged, two wide ornamental ribs on each side. Old perforations for the straps at the edges. The neck guard broken at the base, one corner broken off. Mounted on a modern stand. Dimensions 50 x 29.5 cm, dimensions of neck guard 15 x 21 cm.Provenance: Allegedly found during excavations in the Yunnan Province in the 1970s. Collection Elaine and Guy de la Boisselière.
