A rare Doccia coffee pot and cover, circa 1748-50

Decorated, likely by Giuseppe Romei, with continuous landscape scenes in puce camaieu, the spout moulded as an open griffin face, the domed cover with similar decoration, 21.5cm high (some restoration to rim)

The reverse of the large table fountain in the Ickworth collection is decorated with a similar purple monochrome landscape attributed to Giuseppe Romei; see John Winter, Doccia Porcelain at Ickworth, in Quaderni II (2008), p. 16, fig. 3. Romei received payments as early as 1743 for decoration 'in purpuro'; see A. Biancalana, I pittori della Manifattura di Doccia dal 1740 al 1784, in Quaderni I (2007), p.41.
