A rare Etruscan bronze helmet of Negau type
A rare Etruscan bronze helmet of Negau type, c. 450 - 350 BC, of the type which is believed to have been used by priests and was likely buried for ceremonial reasons. Formed from sheet bronze with central ridge, a horizontal recessed area is above the squared edges which are pierced on either side by a hole for attachment of the lining. The helmet possesses a wonderful mottled green patina, one area with remains of fabric which the helmet was apparently wrapped in upon interment. H: 7 1/3 in (18.6cm), W: 9 1/4 in (23.5cm).
