LOT 113*

A rare Meissen figure of the Virgin Immaculata, circa 1730-35

[ translate ]

Probably modelled by J.G. Kirchner, standing on a serpent wrapped around blue globe flanked by three putti, all on a canted rectangular base embellished with gilding, with a gilt halo and gilt-edged robes with a broad gilt stylised foliate border, 20cm high, faint crossed swords mark in blue (small chip to halo)

Another example of this figure is in the Bavarian National Museum, published by R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810 (1966), no. 901, where the author notes that Kirchner recorded '1. Marienbild mit beschlagenem Postament' [1 figure of Maria with canted pedestal] between 1730 and 1733.
