The scroll inscribed, “Liberte des Mers," (freedom of the seas), the base side impressed with Niderviller factory mark,

The figural group commemorates the signing on February 6, 1778 of two treaties between France and the United States recognizing American Independence and guaranteeing the right to trade between the two nations without British interference.
Condition Report: lot 31: overall in a remarkable state of preservation; with one small area of fluorescence to back right-facing drapery fringe base (behind Franklin), possibly indicating subtle restoration, possibly with two missing tassels to back side corners of drapery; very minor occasional smudging to porcelain surface; retaining accession numbers to interior / underside
