Property from an Important Collection
A rare jade notched disc,
Neolithic period - Shang dynasty
顯赫收藏
新石器時代至商 玉牙璧

14.3 cm

Condition Report:
In overall very good condition, with minor frits to the edges of the notches and original cutting marks on one side of the disc typical to this type and period. The semi-translucent stone with natural fissure lines and brown inclusions.
品相大致完好,壁邊沿有輕微磕碰以及符合時代特征之工藝留痕,玉石中見褐色沁色及原生綹裂。

Catalogue Note:
The deep grooves have bifurcated ends, and the series of serrations almost entirely follow the length of each arc, giving the disc a very dynamic character. The slightly translucent jade links it to two discs of similar size from the Winthrop Collection, illustrated in Max Loehr and Louisa G. Fitzgerald Huber, Ancient Chinese Jades from the Grenville L. Winthrop Collection in the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1975, cat. no. 106 and particularly cat. no. 107; and an example from the collection of Sir Joseph Hotung, published in Jessica Rawson, Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing, London, 1995, p. 163, pl. 8:1.

凸脊槽縫深邃,末端分叉,外緣均佈鋸狀齒牙,尤顯整體靈動飛揚。玉色乳濁,隱約透光,可比兩件牙璧,尺寸相當,Winthrop 雅藏,錄羅樾、胡博,《Ancient Chinese Jades from the Grenville L. Winthrop Collection in the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University》,劍橋,麻薩諸塞州,1975年,編號106、107;另一例,何鴻卿爵士舊藏,錄羅森,《Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing》,倫敦,1995年,頁163,圖版8:1。

Provenance:
Collection of David David-Weill (1871-1952), Paris, coll. no. D.W. 3272.

Sotheby's Paris, 16th December 2015, lot 39.

大維威爾(1871-1952年)收藏,巴黎,收藏編號 D.W. 3272
