A rare mid-19th century American coin silver (900 standard) five-piece twin coffee service, New-York circa 1840 by William Ingalls Tenney (active 1828-48)
Comprising two coffee pots, a milk jug with covered lid, a twin handled covered sugar bowl, and a slop bowl. Each of baluster form upon pedestal bases with vine rims, the bodies with embossed decoration of fruiting vine, the pots with ivory insulators, each engraved with an initial P in gothic script Each stamped underneath ‘Tenney 251 B Way’ and engraved Coin Silver. (5)
Height of coffee pots – 31 cm / 12.2 inches
Weight – 4108 grams / 132 ozt
William Ingalls Tenney was born 22nd Feb 1806 in Newburyport, MA to Richard and Ruth (Ingalls) Tenney. He died in NY on 6th April 1848. His brother and partner, Daniel Ingalls, was born 2nd May 1800 and died at the Metropolitan Hotel in NY on 23rd Nov 1881. After William's early death, Daniel continued the business from their shop at 251 Broadway, New York.
