A rare pair of German silver-gilt revolving globe Torah Finials, Josef Heinrich Mussman, Augsburg, 1824
formed as circular temples of six columns, hung with bells and topped by revolving spheres engraved in Hebrew, with gallery of overlapping arches and lobed borders
marked on borders and staves with maker's mark and city mark
height 13 1/4 in.

Provenance:
The engraved verses are Prov. 3:16, "In her right hand is length of days, in her left riches and honor" and Prov. 3:18 "She is a tree of life to those who praise her, and whoever hold on to her is happy."
The globes are also engraved with initials and surname S.M. Haar.
Joseph (Josef) Heinrich Mussman (Seling, no. 2713), became master in 1822 and died c. 1865. He specialized in religious silver. A Torah shield, 1825-26, by him is in the Jewish Museum, New York (inventory no. 23GA Silver Torah Ornaments, Jewish Museum, New York 1996, cat. no. 57).
