A rare photograph of Yeshiva students during their studies at the Semaragon Yeshiva [Belarus], headed by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Gordin. Early 20th century.

Rabbi Yehuda Leib Gordin [1853-1925] 'The Gaon of Lomza', the rabbi of various cities in Belarus and Poland, at the end of his life served as Rabbi of Lomza. was the rabbinate in Michlichuk for nine years. And became the rabbi of both the Hassidic and the Mitnagdim communities. In 1904 he was appointed as Rabbi of Smargon, where he established a yeshiva where at the height of his studies there were approximately 200 students led by Rabbi Zalman Yosef Ashnowski. before us a rare photograph from the yeshiva where the students are seen studying.

The identification of the location of the photograph as Semaragon Yeshiva was made according to additional materials that came from the owners and tied the photograph to documents and other materials originating in the city, although it was not identified with certainty.
