A rustic 17th-century solid wood chest with wrought-iron hardware
A rustic chest made of solid walnut or chestnut planks. The piece features a heavy plank construction with a rectangular hinged lid and a molded edge atop a body with flat sides. The front panel consists of two large horizontal planks. The base features a decoratively scalloped apron that flows into the cantilevered legs. The central hardware is wrought iron and includes a vertical bolt and a decorative four-armed lock plate secured with hammered iron studs. The surface has a dark, layered patina resulting from age. There are no identifying marks or labels on the exterior.
