[ translate ]

Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn., "Regulator No. 5" hanging clock in a solid walnut and burl walnut veneered case with carved shell crest with tassels, cylindrical turned finials, burl walnut panels, leaf carved corbels, turned columns and teardrop finials at the base, silvered brass dial with subsidiary seconds, blued steel spade hands, a fine eight day weight driven timepiece movement with maintaining power and dead beat escapement, brass clad pendulum and weight with knurled caps

50 x 18 x 7.5 in
Condition Report: This model is scare with only two others sold in our company history. The walnut case is in very good condition and retains an original rubbed down finish, a few dings present with small veneer loss on edge of bottom bracket and just above the front door, scratches on bottom left corner molding, door glass original, top and bottom pairs of finials appear correct but with finish that lacks the consistency of the case, silvered brass dial with some surface pitting and a few scattered light scratches, original hands, the movement is signed with the "ST" trademark and is inscribed "Seth Thomas - New York", the pendulum with darkened hue and light scratches and surface pitting, weight with surface pitting on top cap. Many of ST's early cabinetmakers were German-trained and brought catalogs for patterns, thus many of the company's better regulator cases have a resemblance to German "Vienna" regulators. This is a very nice example of this scarce early Seth Thomas regulator, ACCESSORIES: Pendulum, Winding Crank, Five Finials, Crest, Brass Weight, circa 1880
