A set of twelve (12) Chinese maritime watercolour paintings on pith (rice) paper, each depicts a different ship. China, late Qing dynasty, 19th century, around 1860-80. Very rare, particularly as a full set!

Very good quality Chinese export watercolor paintings on rice paper depiciting junks and sampans (boats, vessels) . All pictures come originaly from one album, later mounted into a frame. Each with original pale blue border.

Dimensions:
Frame: height - 123,8 cm; width - 60,2 cm; depth - 1,1 cm.
Paintings (with border) - 23,6 x 16,7 cm; without border - 20,6 x 13,8 cm.

Provenance: private collection, Frankfurt, Germany.

Pith paper, also known as rice paper, was a popular material used in Chinese paintings during the 19th century.

Conditions report: good condition considering the age and material. Some with typical damages to the pitch paper, one loose, check pictures for details. Minimal wear to the frame. Paintings were NOT examined out of the frame.
