A set of six Apostle spoons & a pair of Victorian silver seal-top spoons

A set of six Apostle spoons, each with planished oval bowl to a part relief decorated and part rope twist stem and figurative terminal, each depicting a different Apostle, marks to reverse of bowl, partly rubbed and not identified, length 7.25" (18.5cm). Together with two further continental Apostle spoons, one with unidentified struck marks to bowl, and a pair of mid-Victorian silver seal-top spoons, hallmarked John Wilmin Figg London 1859 and 1860. Weight 17.2ozt (535.5 grams).

Condition Report:
- All displaying some surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Also some little surface nicks and gouges.
- Apostle spoons with heavier tarnishing and dirt residues to some areas, especially to the figural terminals and also to the stems.
- Traces of gilding to some areas, especially the bowls.
- One spoon with cracks and repairs around the centre of the stem. This spoon also appears cleaner and polished compared to the other five.
- Flattening and surface wear to areas of the stem decoration and to the figures, causing some loss of detail.
- Struck marks to reverse of bowls are mostly partly distorted or obscured. Letter M is visible?
- Apostle spoon set have been metal tested and results vary from around 85% Ag (bowl) to 90% Ag (finial) and 92% Ag (stem).
- Additional Apostle spoons in poor condition, with one having a bent finial and splits to bowl.
- One additional Apostle spoon tests from 68% Ag (finial) to 86% Ag (bowl), while the other testes 83% Ag (bowl) to 90% Ag (finial).
- Fellows uses a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser to test metals. This technology is limited to examining metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns.
- Fellows does not guarantee the standard of silver unless an item is hallmarked. Results from electronically tested items should only be used as a guide and with caution, as false readings are possible.
- Victorian spoons also displaying some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with their age and general use.
- Maker's marks partly rubbed but legible. Hallmarks ok.
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
