A set of six Victorian mahogany balloon back dining chairs, circa 1870 and later upholstered, and a pair of similar dining chairs (8)Condition Report: All with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, old splits and cracks, Overall all chairs are solid and stable.The six all recently upholstered, and all stamped with serial numbers - five are 1154 one is 1168, two of the chairs have old paper labels for Davidson Brothers - they are presumably the chair makers or retailers. the frames were probably tightened when the later upholstery was applied - almost certainly by a professional upholsterer. The tops of the seat are 46cm from the floorThe other pair of chairs also recently upholstered, one stamped 2059, the other 5049. The drop in seats have been recently upholstered, there are signs of glue to the frames and again these were probably strengthened when upholstered, the peg to secure the seat to the chair has been re-sited to one.
