[ translate ]

A set of six black Japanned chairs, in Queen Anne style, 19th century, decorated throughout with floral motifs and figures in rural scenes, each shaped top rail above a vase shaped splat, the padded drop in seat above tapering cabriole legs terminating in pad feet

Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits throughout, some old repairs, some small losses. Some additional wear to surfaces in areas including feet as expected. Seats later re-covered. Some old worm holes in areas throughout (see images). Some neatly spliced in elements (and decorated to match, as a result of old worm damage) A very attractive set of chairs, decorated to a good standard. An attractive feature is that all the chairs are decorated with varying motifs from each other but clearly by the same hand/ workshop. The chairs are generally of solid structure, the joints of one chair, and perhaps some joints of other chairs may need tightening. Some joints at seat rails and upper terminals of backs with dowel/ peg joints, painted in to disguise. Various areas of craqueleure to japanned surfaces, mainly to the backs. In some areas affected there have been some fragmentary losses that have been disguised in many areas by sympathetically painted in stain/ paint. The top of the back of one chair with two repairs including well matched spliced elements.(see images) Some other possible small spliced elements but decorated to match. No obvious repaired breaks or splicing to legs. Evidence of old worm in areas to a relatively minor extent. This could be disguised further. Worm is not active. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition.
