A shabracque, holster covers, horse's browband and breastplate badge of an Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V, 1910.

The shabracque, holster covers and browband conforming exactly to those prescribed for an ADC to The King in Dress Regulations for the Army 1911, paragraphs 93-95, page 19: blue woollen cloth embellished with gold lace, the rear corners of the shabracque bearing the Royal Cypher of King George V; the breastplate badge struck in brass and bearing the Royal Cypher of King Edward VII. The shabracque enclosed in a linen bag within a japanned tin trunk bearing on its lid the name: Colonel C.M. Dobell DSO ADC; the trunk also enclosing the other items.

Showing little sign of use but the patent leather elements partially degraded though contact with tissue paper; some slight moth damage and staining.

Dobell was appointed ADC to the King on 4th November 1910. As Prince of Wales, the King had been Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Welch Fusiliers since 1901 and retained the position as King. According to documents preserved in Dobell's scrapbook, he was in attendance on the King during the Royal Progress on the day after the Coronation, 23rd June 1911 and on the visit of the King and Queen to the City of London on 29th June 1911: these items would have been in use on those occasions.
