A silver biscuit box and covered sugar dish, Ball, Tompkins & Black (active 1839-1851), New York, NY, and Samuel Kirk (founded 1815), Baltimore, MD, circa 1828-1851
Comprising a biscuit box by Ball, Tompkins & Black, circa 1845, with two-part hinged lid with finial, a lion masque with ring to either side, the body decorated with repousse floral and foliate motifs, centering reserves, one engraved with armorial crest in the form of suit of armor above monogram, “F.S.,” on lion and paw-form feet, marked to underside; and a footed sugar dish by Samuel Kirk, circa 1828-1846, the lid with finial, gadrooned rim, the body decorated with repousse floral and foliate motifs, centering reserves to either side, with two handles, each issuing from masque, rocaille, and shell motifs, marked to underside, “S.K/ 11/12."
