Dwight Blaney, artist and important early collector of American decorative arts, was a founder of the exclusive collecting group, the Walpole Society. This cann was on loan to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for many years beginning in 1910.
Condition Report: lot 38: the body overall with mottled surface indicative of honest use and rubbing from polishing over time, with some occasional dents or scratches; the underside rim has been re-soldered; the interior with some pitting, scratches, and small dark specks of oxidation and dent
