Titel:
A silver coffeepot, milk jug with five small porcelain plates and cups "A Piece of cake", Wiebke Meurer

Omschrijving:
DescriptionThe set "a Piece of Cake" comprises a coffee pot and jug with five cups and plates in white porcelain. The porcelain was made by a student of the Rietveld academy of Amsterdam, she casted and fired them and applied the enamel. The form/model is done by Wiebke Meurer. Maker Wiebke Meurer, Switzerland 2003. Hallmarked in Germany 925/000, the maker worked both in Germany and Switzerland at that time. This is one set out of three, one is in possession of the maker. Other work (Service Royal) is exhibited in the “Stedelijk” museum in Amsterdam.LiteratureThe story of the concept by the maker: The coffee service, ‘A Piece of Cake’, presents a new concept for tableware. In everyday porcelain, the individual pieces are seen to belong together because of their shape and colour. However, when the entire set is placed together, this ‘belonging’ acquires an extra dimension: the individual pieces of ‘A Piece of Cake’ fit together in the form of a cake. ‘A Piece of Cake’ visualizes with its formal appearance the action that takes place at a ‘Kaffeekranz’, namely, the sharing of a cake. Our social habits are thus directly translated into the design. While functionality plays an important role, it is not the only factor in determining the final design.Origin / Exhibition / LiteThanks for the additional photos from the website of the artist
