A silver deer brooch, by Arno Malinowski for Georg Jensen, 1957 The oval-shaped openwork silver plaque, containing a stylised kneeling deer amidst flowers, signed Georg Jensen, maker's mark, pattern 256, UK hallmark, length 4.5cm Arno Malinowski (1899-1976) began designing hollowware and jewellery for Georg Jensen in 1936. In 1940, he designed the Kingmark in celebration of the 70th birthday of King Christian X. The design was produced in great numbers and was worn by Danes to demonstrate their resistance to the German occupation. Malinowski was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Eckersberg medal and Carlson prize. His work is characterised by naturalistic motifs, such as animals and plants, which he combined with the pure forms of Functionalism.
